A calm and fair mind means that an individual does not discriminate some people or thing from another. It also refers to the unity of our inner and outer self. It is like Tao formulated by ancient sages of China. According to Buddha Dharma, it is not only the rules in the mundane world but also the supramundane world. Buddha doesn't have the mundane or transmundane paths to attain enlightenment, for equality is the only way.According to Avatamsaka Sutra, there is no discrimination between mind, Buddha and sentient beings, even though the former is enlightened and pleasant while the latter is confused and suffering. Still, they share Buddhahood in mind. As is said, “Buddha is one of the sentient beings who has been enlightened while the sentient beings are Buddha yet enlightened”. Be it emperors or civilians, human beings or animals, they are equal from the perspective of Buddha. Equality and unity are stressed in Buddha Dharma. If our mind is calm and fair, according to Dharma, three poisons known as greed, anger, and ignorance would disappear.

心平是没有分别心，是自身内在与外在的统一。心平与中国古圣先贤所说的“道”相通，佛法认为心平不但是世间的道，也是出世间最高的道，诸佛菩萨没有二道，大道就是平等。《华严经》云：“心、佛及众生，是三无差别。”佛与众生虽有迷悟、苦乐的不同，但心体是相同的、是平等的、是凡圣不二的，“佛是已觉悟的众生，众生是未觉悟的佛”。不论是天子、庶民或是鸟兽、虫务，在佛祖眼里是一律平等的，佛法强调平等、统一因为心若能平等，就没有贪嗔痴。
