Only when you regard sacrifice as the source of life, you could be able to peep liberation. In the practice of Buddhism, it is necessary to sacrifice the attachment of the incorrect views of having a self, because sacrificing one's wealth is a prerequisite to broaden one's mind of life and cultivate one's heart of compassion, joy and almsgiving so as to better sacrifice one's incorrect views of having a self. Wealth is the source of livelihood. It is an inherent habit of sentiment beings to grasp wealth with affection. If one could give up this inherent habits first, one could practice the Six Thoughts (Note 1)and achieve the Third Realisation. The purpose of giving up wealth is to better sacrifice the incorrect view of having a self to achieve the Third Realisation. That is to say, the purpose of sacrificing wealth is to facilitate giving up the incorrect view of having a self. However, if one practises sacrificing money in order to better abandon the attachment of having a self but not understand the connotation of sacrificing the incorrect views of having a self, there would not have any meaning for achieving the liberation of individual life though one might achieve contaminated reward from human and heaven. Note 1: The six thoughts : Buddha 念佛, the Dharma 念法, the saṃgha 念僧, the precepts 念戒, almsgiving 念施, and heaven with its prospective joys 念天.
